05.07.2008Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne) proved that his reputation is warranted by winning the opening stage, taking the yellow and relegating some of the other major general classification contenders to the minor places. On a course that many suggested would suit the strong sprinters who can also climb, the first Spanish winner of la Fleche Wallonne bolted past this year’s champion of the Ardennes Classic, Kim Kirchen, in the final 200 metres and into the lead to claim his second Tour de France stage win.

US Cycling Announces 2008 U.S. Olympic Team

03.07.2008/USA Cycling announced today 21 of its 24 nominees to the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team, including all 16 men's athletes across the disciplines of road cycling, track cycling, mountain biking and bicycle motocross (BMX). Additionally, USA Cycling formally announced five automatic women's nominees across the four Olympic disciplines of cycling.

30.06.2008/ Rahsaan Bahati won his sixth race of the season in convincing fashion Sunday, scoring an impressive second straight victory at the 47th edition of the Chevron Manhattan Beach Grand Prix.

29.06.2008/ Filippo Simeoni (Flaminia-Bossini) is the new Italian National Road Champion. The 36 year old attacked with four kilometres to go and finished with a very small lead. Defending champ Giovanni Visconti (Quickstep) came in second and Filippo Pozzato (Liquigas) completed the podium.

06.07.2008/Alejandro Valverde won yesterdays first stage of the 2008 Tour de France. The Spaniard outsprinted Philippe Gilbert, who would have liked to win as it was his 26th birthday yesterday. Valverde also took the yellow jersey in vhe exiting first stage. Here some quotes after stage 1.

Team CSC Saxo Bank Announced Results Internal Anti-Doping Programm

04.07.2008/For the second time in its history Team CSC Saxo Bank is now making public the results from their anti-doping program, which is carried out in cooperation with Rasmus Damsgaard and Bispebjerg University Hospital. Over a 1000 tests have been taken from the riders since the introduction of the program in connection with the 2007 season and according to a press release of the Danish Pro-Tour team every single one of these tests have been negative.

Court Order: Rabobank Have To Pay 700.000 Euro To Michael Rasmussen

03.07.2008/A court in the Netherlands ordered Rabobank to pay 700.000 Euro to Michael Rasmussen. In yesterday's court order of the court of Utrecht the ruling judge said that Rabobank had the right to sack Rasmussen but that the Dutch team did not have the right to sack Rasmussen without notice. Judge J. Sap said that Rabobank knew or should have known that Rasmussen was in Italy and not in Mexico.

Rock Racing To Ride The Tour of Britain 2008

03.07.2008/In a pressrelease the organisers of The Tour of Britain  yesterday announced that Rock Racing will be on the London start line of the 2008 edition of the British stage race. In the provisional roster of the US continental team are Fred Rodriguez, past Tour de France yellow jersey Victor Hugo Pena and Tyler Hamilton.

Klöden Not Nominated For Olympic Games: "You Are Not Among Them."

01.07.2008/The German Cycling Federation (BDR) announced the German selection for the Olympic Games in Beijing. Andreas Klöden, third at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, was not selected for this years Olympics. Klöden said he received a text message on his mobile phone: "You are not among them."

Jan Ullrich received Cyclingheroes Award At Terra-S Headquarters

29.06.2008/ Jan Ullrich received the Cyclingheroes Award on Friday.  In December more than 2000 cycling fans voted for Jan Ullrich in the category 'Best rider retired in 2007'. Ullrich retired in 2007 and is nowadays working together with German company Terra-S. A happy Ullrich received the award at Terra-S headquarters in Owingen (Germany).

24.06.2008/ There are 2 races in the year that give insight into who will be the big players for the biggest race of the year, the Tour de France. They are the Dauphiné Libéré and the Tour de Suisse. I have never done the Dauphiné Libéré but I did have chance to do the Tour de Suisse in 2005. It was my first pro tour race and I had just come off breaking my pelvis. Quite frankly I was scared to death.
